DALLAS — Precinct 2 Commissioner Alisa Simmons skipped the latest Commissioner’s Court meeting to prevent a vote on a property tax decrease.

Since fellow Democrat Roderick Miles, Jr. was also a no-show, the court lacked a quorum and couldn’t pass the new tax rate. State law requires at least four commissioners present to make a rate change.

County Judge Tim O’Hare called a special Commissioner’s Court meeting on Monday, September 22, to try again. Commissioner Simmons told us on Inside Texas Politics that she will not attend that meeting either.

“I wasn’t at Tuesday’s meeting. I don’t know why anybody would have an expectation that I would be at Monday’s meeting,” she said. “It just so happens I will not be in town Monday. My beloved aunt died. I am flying to San Diego on Sunday for
