ST. LOUIS — A man was given a 40-year sentence Friday for causing a street race that left a woman dead and two others injured, authorities said.

A news release from the circuit attorney's office said Jaron Sims, 37, was sentenced by a judge in the case, which stemmed from a crash in July 2022 in the 2000 block of St. Louis Avenue in the St. Louis Place neighborhood.

The release said evidence showed Sims raced another eastbound vehicle when both drivers ran a red light at North 20th Street. Sims' vehicle struck a vehicle carrying Adrianne Holloway, 60; a two-year-old child and the child's father, 40.

Holloway died three days later from critical injuries. The child also had serious injuries, the release said.
