They are not blinking. They are not rolling over or moving back.

They have drawn a line in the sand and that sand is not shifting.

The government led by Premier Danielle Smith is back at the bargaining table with the Alberta Teachers’ Association, the ATA.

If the teachers do not get their way they have said they will strike Oct. 6, a little more than two weeks away.

The Smith government says their offer to teachers is “strong” and “exceedingly fair.”

They say it will pay teachers well, the best in western Canada by 2027.

At the same time the Alberta government will hire more teachers while the government’s budget is running a deficit, swimming in a sea of red ink, more money going out than coming into the treasury.
