LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools is facing a critical budget shortfall even as the district approved massive cuts to next year’s spending.
Jefferson County Public Schools is facing a substantial budget deficit. During a school board meeting this week, new superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood said failure is not an option.
On Tuesday, $100 million in cuts was approved by the board, with another $80 million on the horizon.
“Because if we don’t, student lives, student outcomes, will be impacted in ways that we do not want,” Yearwood told Spectrum News on Friday. “I’m not going to get into finger-pointing because that solves nothing.”
Yearwood is bracing his district for cuts.
“There will be some pain points. There will be some uncomfortable decisions that will need to be ma
