HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Jury deliberations are underway in the case of a man accused of killing his mother and her dog in their Milani home back in 2020.

The prosecution alleges that Jamil Hart stabbed his mother, Gwendolyn Hara-Hart, 74, multiple times, dragged her body to her bed, and then stabbed her dog.

“The fact that he intentionally used a double edged weapon and the nature scope and severity of the injuries that he caused -- this was not an accident or a mistake, but rather reflects his conscious objective to engage in this conduct,” the prosecution said in court.

Hart was later arrested while allegedly trying to break into a nearby church.

Hart’s attorneys argue that he was suffering from physical and mental issues at the time.
