NEW ORLEANS — A judge ruled that prosecutors can play portions of our interview with former New Orleans 911 Director Tyrell Morris as evidence against Morris at his criminal trial next week.

Morris had already been charged with malfeasance in office, insurance fraud, false personation of a peace officer and doctoring public records when he came to WWL on March 6 seeking an interview to launch his campaign for mayor.

I interviewed him and questioned him about some of the key evidence that will be used against him at trial, including video from a fender-bender he had in his public vehicle on May 7, 2023. But Morris’ defense attorney, Ralph Whalen, argued this week that the interview and another Morris gave to WDSU had been edited “to be the most sensational to reflect as badly as possible
