VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Hundreds of people gathered in Volusia County on Friday evening to honor Edgewater Police Officer David Jewell, who investigators say was fatally shot while off duty earlier this week at a gas station in Ormond-by-the-Sea.
Family members, fellow law enforcement officers and community members held candles, placed flowers on Jewell’s patrol car and listened as bagpipes played during an emotional vigil. Jewell, 45, was remembered as a devoted father and public servant.

“I want to take a moment to introduce someone very special to all of us. It’s David’s son, Bobby,” one speaker said, adding that the teen is committed to carrying on his father’s legacy.
The vigil drew support not only from Jewell’s immediate community but also from others who have
