As the region nears the end of the monsoon season, Santa Cruz County Floodplain Coordinator Allan Sanchez noted that rainfall averages over the last two months have been below average.

June’s rainfall was above average by nearly an inch. But the following months set a different trend: Rainfall levels in July and August were both one inch below average, Sanchez added. And while September usually sees an average of 2.2 inches of rain, levels this year had reached only a half-inch by Sept. 14. ×
