The starter on Friday night, 17-year-old Gavin Betts, played all nine of them and went into the season designated as the likely No. 1 based on his selection and performance with the Canadian team at the Hlinka/Gretzky under-18 tournament in August.
Betts, the Frontenacs’ second-round pick in the 2024 Priority Selection, had some great moments this summer and Hockey Canada’s under-17 event, but the opening night of the 2025-26 season is one that he’ll try to forget.
