TYLER, Texas (KETK) - In honor of the men and women who've fought for our country, East Texans gathered Friday in Smith County to celebrate the official recognition of the Veterans Memorial Highway.
"This dedication was about honoring the service of veterans, it's a way for them to be reminded every time they drive down Highway 69 that they are appreciated," Co-chair of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce Veterans Committee Jackie Clay Robertson said.
Gold Star mother Liz Bell, who lost her son in Afghanistan in August of 2012, received a personalized veteran's flag.
"You never want to think that your son is forgotten, and things like this let you know that they are not," Bell said.
Bell shared her sons' story, hoping to ensure every veteran feels the same support her family's been show
