WICCOPEE - The returning players insisted that the John Jay-East Fishkill football team wasn’t as bad as its record last season would suggest.

The Patriots were riddled with injuries, lost more than their share of close games and, the group insists, had several instances in which the ball simply didn’t bounce their way. Figuratively.

But the team this season already has dealt with injuries, including the absence Sept. 19 of their best offensive weapon, and John Jay found itself in another of those close games against a good team. But, in one key instance, the ball did bounce their way. Literally.
