A patient who was in hospital under police observation allegedly used a taser on an officer while trying to escape custody.

About 4.30pm on Friday, September 19, 2025, officers attached to Chifley Police District arrested a 39-year-old man at an address in Bathurst on two warrants for alleged property-related matters.

The man was taken to Bathurst Hospital for overnight observation following minor injuries sustained during the arrest.

Around 7.40am on Saturday, September 20, 2025, the man allegedly attempted to escape police custody, and officers used a taser during the arrest.

However, police will allege the man came into possession of the taser and used it towards an officer, who sustained minor injuries.

The officer was assessed by hospital staff as a precaution.
