Yolŋu children from nine Laynhapuy homelands are shouting the Yothu Yindi anthem, Homeland Movement, in a ceremony in the Garrthalala homeland.
"Power to the people, power to their land, power for cultural revival, power for survival," they sing.
The song is more than that to the Yolŋu people of East Arnhem Land — it's a story of their elders claiming back a life that was ripped from them during colonisation.
The name Yothu Yindi translates to "mother-child" in Yolŋu Matha, which Layna senior cultural advisor Yananymul Munuŋgurr says refers to the relationship the Yolŋu people have to their land.
