For years, Grosse Pointe Theatre (GPT) has been rotating its performances throughout local schools and churches, limited by the scheduling availability and capacities of the facilities. Now, Grosse Pointe’s community theater — and several other local performing arts organizations — will have a permanent home when the A. The Paul and Carol C. Schaap Center for the Performing Arts and the Richard and Jane Manoogian Art Gallery will open this fall.

The $45 million, 435-seat theater and art gallery sits at the border of Grosse Pointe Park and Detroit on the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Alter Road. It plans to open with a matinee on Nov. 30 and a gala on Dec. 3 that will feature a mix of music and dance performances from community partners, followed by GPT’s production of “White Christ
