SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. — A climbing accident claimed the life of a man on Mount Shasta's Wintun Glacier. According to the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office, 45-year-old Matias Augusto Travizano from Argentina died after falling approximately 2,000 feet on September 12.

Officials stated that Travizano and two other climbers had successfully reached the summit earlier that day. On their way down, two of the climbers accidentally strayed from the trail and ended up on an ice sheet at around 13,500 feet. They attempted to glissade to a lower section to rejoin the trail when Travizano lost control and collided with a boulder.

Officials say that the impact left Travizano unconscious for several minutes. When he regained consciousness, his movement caused him to slide further down the glacier,
