COLDWATER, MI — The parking lot at Lakeland Elementary School on Western Avenue was filled with pots of mums on Wednesday, Sept. 17, with volunteers and school staff sorting the pots.

Parents and students in the fourth- and fifth-grade center sold flowers to raise funds for field trips during the school year.

Principal Sarah Neubecker said the project raised $3,800.

"We do not have that in the budget. Each trip costs $1,000 for the buses," she said.

The sale began with the start of the school year, which will help fund out-of-town trips. The fourth grade goes to the state capital in the spring.

Neubecker, teachers, and volunteers sorted the plants by student and room in the parking lot after the Ohio-based grower dropped them off on Wednesday.
