A retired British woman who moved to southern Italy in her 70s says the quality of life and low cost of living have allowed her to slash her monthly outgoings in half.

Anne Williams, 76, from Liverpool, relocated to the countryside near the city of Reggio Calabria, on the straits of Messina in the Calabria region , after her husband passed away in 2019.

She said that back home in Liverpool she had been paying £1,200 per month to rent a three-bedroom house and for bills and living costs .

Mrs Williams now has no family left in the city since her husband’s passing, so in 2019 she decided to leave the UK for a fresh start.
