A woman died Friday night in a head-on collision on Route 111 west of Fellows Road in Windham, authorities said.

The crash happened about 10:20 p.m. when two vehicles collided head-on in the eastbound lane of Route 111, according to Windham Fire Chief Thomas McPherson Jr.

Emergency responders found a mid-sized SUV operated by a lone female facing west and another vehicle operated by a lone male facing east, both with heavy damage. The woman was trapped in her vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries, fire officials said.

The male driver was transported to Parkland Medical Center in Derry with arm, head and chest injuries that did not appear life-threatening, McPherson said.
