Jim Carlin, Ashley Hinson's only GOP primary opponent so far for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Jodi Ernst (R-Iowa), told the Globe Gazette Thursday his mission is to preserve President Trump's legacy.

Carlin said Trump's appeal was to "middle-class people who felt like they weren't being heard."

Carlin said Hinson, who currently represents the Iowa 2nd Congressional District, voted to certify Joe Biden as president following the 2020 election, "which some people, including me, have some real doubts about."

He also said Hinson supported Liz Cheney for House leadership after Cheney voted to impeach Trump.
