LUFKIN, Texas — Lufkin Police arrested a man Friday linked to an unusual drug case while Texas Rangers were conducting a separate murder investigation in Shelby County.

According to Lufkin Police, Avante Nicholson was taken into custody after Rangers requested assistance during a search for a murder suspect. Rangers were at a home in the 1300 block of Scott Street in Lufkin around 2 p.m. Friday when they asked local officers to help search the residence.

Officers found Nicholson inside the home. While he was not the suspect Rangers were looking for, investigators said they questioned him as a witness in the murder case.

Nicholson had already been wanted by Lufkin Police since April 20, when he was connected to plastic Easter eggs filled with marijuana that were left at three city parks
