SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane nonprofit is designing permanent housing for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Mujeres in Action is borrowing concepts from the Haystack Heights housing community in the South Perry district.
Susan Virnig co-created Haystack Heights with her husband and two other couples, and it's still going strong.
"The whole idea is to create a village. And for us, intergenerational was really important," Virnig said.
Haystack Heights and its community is just what nonprofit Mujeres in Action wants to emulate as they are working toward building permanent housing for the people they serve.
Mujeres in Action, or MIA, bought two acres of land in North Spokane to build their project, Casa Mia — a permanent housing community where people can stay indefinitel
