LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro has spent $88,664 of taxpayer money so far in 2025 to clean up graffiti. It's a cost city officials call both preventable and damaging to neighborhoods.

According to the Louisville Metro Department of Codes and Regulations, it has addressed 2,553 graffiti vandalism cases as of this article. In 2024, the department addressed a total of 2,925 cases. Its crews continue to work to restore walls, signs and buildings damaged by graffiti.

“So far year to date, in 2025, we've abated over 2,500 graffiti tags throughout the city,” said Phil Crowe, Assistant Director of the department.

But a line exists between the department and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC). Tagged billboards and highways fall under KYTC’s responsibility.
