Texas Tech football quarterback Behren Morton left the Big 12 opener on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Utah after taking a hit to the helmet early in the third quarter.

Morton was scrambling for yardage on a second-and-28 play. As Morton slid, Utah linebacker Johnathan Hall came in low to secure the tackle, and Hall's shoulder hit Morton's head. Officials reviewed the play and determined there was no targeting infraction.

Morton was subsequently escorted to the locker room by a member of the Tech medical staff.

Tech led Utah 10-3 at halftime, and the play occurred on the first series of the second half. It was the second time in the game that Morton was visibly shaken up. In the first half, he left the game briefly after being taken to the ground on a hard hit from Utah defensive end John
