PHOENIX — Tesla has met the requirements to start testing self-driving vehicles in Arizona.
"Tesla has submitted a self-certification stating its plans to test autonomous vehicles in Arizona using safety drivers," a news release from the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
The following must be met:
Vehicles must follow all applicable federal laws, regulations and guidelines
Vehicles must meet all applicable certificate, title and registration, licensing and insurance requirements
Vehicles must be capable of complying with all applicable traffic and motor vehicle safety laws and regulations of the State of Arizona
If the person testing the vehicle does not follow the guidelines listed above, they could be issued a traffic citation or other penalty.
