As Texas Tech football tries to pull off a road win in its biggest game of the 2025 season, it will have to do so without a key player.

Red Raiders quarterback Behren Morton left No. 16 Texas Tech's game against No. 18 Utah on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City with an injury.

With his team holding on to a 10-3 lead, Morton rushed for a 10-yard gain on a second-and-28 on the fourth play from scrimmage in the second half. As he was going down, Morton absorbed a huge hit from Utah linebacker Johnathan Hall.

Morton left the game and was replaced by backup quarterback Will Hammond.

After leaving the field, Morton was taken to the Texas Tech locker room, where he was examined by team medical personnel.

He has been ruled out for the remainder of the game, according to Fox sideline reporter Jenny Taft. It's unclear what injury Morton suffered.

The hit from Hall was initially ruled targeting, but the call was overturned after video review.

Prior to his injury, Morton had completed 12 of 19 passes for 142 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. Both of Morton's interceptions came in Utah territory, with the second coming in the end zone as Texas Tech was driving and trying to extend what was then a 7-0 lead.
