In Ben Kindel’s brief tenure in Pittsburgh, there has been a fixation on his skating.
But the main thing that has stood out to new Penguins coach Dan Muse in the early days of training camp is where Kindel is going, not how quickly he is getting there.
“He has been a lot of fun to watch,” Muse said. “He’s one of those players where at times the game looks easy to him, because he puts himself in such good positions.”
Muse is pretty pleased with the progress Kindel has made the past three months.
In June, the Penguins took Kindel at No. 11 overall — their highest draft pick in 13 years. Some around the NHL were surprised by that selection. But Kyle Dubas and his scouts were big believers, citing his high hockey IQ and his two-way potential.
