Anker Innovations Limited is recalling nearly 500,000 portable power banks due to fire and burn hazards, after receiving multiple reports of overheating, fires and explosions.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the recall, which affects five different models of Anker power banks sold at major retailers nationwide and online.
The recall impacts approximately 481,000 units of the Anker Power Bank models A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681 and A1689.
The lithium-ion batteries inside the devices have been identified as the source of the problem, with officials warning that they can overheat, causing fire and burn risks.
Why the recall was issued
According to the commission, Anker received 33 reports of overheating incidents, including cases where the devices exploded.
