Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur hit back at Lewis Hamilton's claim regarding the team's tire choice costing him a spot in Q3 at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix qualifying.

After the session, Hamilton told reporters that he wanted to go on the medium tire, which he felt was the fastest compound, but the team overruled the driver and sent him out on the soft tire.

According to Vasseur, Hamilton's issues came down to a lack of fuel after he aborted his first lap in Q2, rather than the tire choice itself.

"We aborted lap one, but it means that you are not filling the car to do 10 laps more, for sure, and we need to push that and the tires," the Ferrari leader said.
