A block on Cass Avenue in downtown Detroit was transformed into a salon, wellness center and banquet hall for homeless people and victims of human trafficking Saturday.
The Welcome Table organizer John T. Boston said “there’s a lot of lack of dignity (and) a lack of compassion” toward homeless people as cities across the United States bulldozer encampments. This week in Lansing, for example, a judge ordered an encampment be torn down in the next two months and said the city must find housing for the roughly 35 residents who now live there.
