If you are smelling smoke around Metro Vancouver, you are not the only one.

1130 NewsRadio has received multiple reports of a strong smell of smoke around the area, but Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) says there are currently no active fires in the area.

VFRS’s assistant chief says the smoke is likely coming from wildland fires in Washington state.

According to the Metro Vancouver Regional District (MVRD), Saturday’s air quality health index is sitting at a medium risk.

“This afternoon (September 20), parts of Metro Vancouver are experiencing some elevated fine particulate matter (small particles in the air that may affect human health) concentrations due to southerly winds blowing wildfire smoke from Washington State into the region,” the MVRD said online.
