EAST CHICAGO — A person under 18 was charged in connection with a homicide that left a 22-year-old man dead last month, the East Chicago Police Department said in a Facebook post.

The young person faces charges of reckless homicide, criminal recklessness and dangerous possession of a firearm by a juvenile in the death of Jontavis Pearson, the post said. The suspect was arrested Friday and is in custody at the Lake County Juvenile Center.

East Chicago Police Chief Jose Rivera did not immediately respond to an inquiry about the age of the teenager and if the charges in the case were filed in adult or juvenile court. The suspect's name was not included in the post.
