KALAMAZOO — For 59 minutes of the University of Toledo’s football game Saturday at Western Michigan, the odds favored the Rockets.
UT, which was 2-1 entering the game, had a win probability of no lower than 59.7 percent in the first half. That was according to ESPN’s tracker, which analyzes factors such as score, time remaining, down and distance, and field position.
By halftime, the Rockets’ win probability was at 78 percent. Those odds reached 99.9 percent when UT forced a turnover on downs near the 2-minute timeout.
The odds, however, didn’t pan out. Western Michigan wound up winning 14-13 on a Broc Lowry touchdown and 2-point conversion with 52 seconds to go.
