CONWAY, Ark. — On Saturday, every department head in the city of Conway was called to present their thoughts on what should be in the city’s 2026 budget to the Mayor and City Council.

Almost every department head had a request, like Animal Services Director Spencer Clawson, who asked for higher pay for his staff.

“There’s no telling what they’re gonna get into,” Clawson said, “And they always do it with a smile. They don't complain. I'd like to see everybody get some raises this year.”

Director of Engineering Kurt Jones said that the amount of road the city operates grows every year, and if they don’t get more money for repairs, poor conditions on city streets could become the norm.
