YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. — A bear attacked a man hiking by himself in Yellowstone National Park on Tuesday, the first such attack at the park in more than four years, according to the National Park Service (NPS) .
NPS described it as a surprise encounter and said the park will not take any action against the bear.
The 29-year-old hiker was on the Turbid Lake Trail, about 2.5 miles from the Pelican Valley Trailhead and northeast of Mary Bay, when he encountered the bear on Tuesday afternoon.
The hiker started to deploy bear spray when the bear attacked him, and he suffered injuries to his chest and left arm.
The injuries were not considered life-threatening. NPS said medics responded and walked out with the hiker, who was taken to a clinic by ambulance and then flown to a nearb
