CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported that one man was arrested after the human remains of a missing man were found at a house.

On August 22, Cherokee deputies executed a search warrant at a house on Robbs School Road in Gaffney. During the search, deputies located human remains in the backyard of the residence.

On September 15, the Cherokee County Coroner's Office identified the remains as Kevin Scott Brookshire, a man reported missing from Chesnee for more than three years.

Following an investigation, a suspect was identified as 21-year-old John Lucas Rice. Rice was located in Shelby, North Carolina, and reportedly confessed to the murder of Brookshire in December of 2021 following an interview with Cherokee County Investigators.
