ATHENS, Texas (KETK) - Ahead of Charlie Kirk's memorial service in Arizona on Sunday, many East Texans gathered together in Athens to mourn the conservative political speaker, who was killed in Utah on Sept. 10.

Many people spoke, prayed and participated in a moment of silence at a vigil in Kirk's honor in downtown Athens on Saturday.

Athens resident Brian Sherman attended the event and said that people have a renewed opportunity to exchange their political views peacefully in the wake Kirk's death.
