Duquesne football has now lost eight straight games to FBS opponents, falling to the Akron Zips on Saturday night, 51-7. The Dukes were dominated throughout the game at InfoCision Stadium in Akron, Ohio, committing multiple turnovers and never getting in rhythm on offense.
“We just didn’t get our legs rolling offensively at all,” Duquesne coach Jerry Schmitt said. “I think that hurt our defense.”
The first half was dominated by Akron on both sides of the ball. In the first quarter, the Zips outgained Duquesne 144-7. An early interception by linebacker Jabari Odoemenem wasn’t enough of a catalyst for the Dukes, with the team not gaining a first down in their first four offensive possessions.
