In what was supposed to be a huge step up in weight class for No. 19 Indiana, the Hoosiers made No. 9 Illinois look exactly like the featherweight opponents they had dispatched to open the season, dominating all night in front of a sellout crowd at Memorial Stadium on the way to a 63-10 victory.
Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza completed 21 of 23 passes for 267 yards and five touchdowns, giving him back-to-back games with five TD tosses, and the IU defense harassed Illinois QB Luke Altmyer to the tune of seven sacks among 10 tackles for loss overall.
Defensive tackles Tyrique Tucker and Mario Landino had two sacks apiece.
