With the race for playoff positioning ramping up in the NWSL, the Portland Thorns had a lot to play for Saturday night in front of 18,443 fans at Providence Park. But while they were a step slow from the opening whistle, Reyna Reyes scored in the 86th minute to prevent a third consecutive home loss and rescue a 1-1 draw with the San Diego Wave.

After falling behind 1-0 in the second half and failing to sustain much attacking pressure throughout the game, the Thorns got a lifeline when Sam Coffey was fouled just outside the top of the penalty area in the waning minutes.
