When Kemi Badenoch took over as Conservative leader almost one year ago, the party was only a couple of percentage points away from overtaking Labour to lead the opinion polls.

Now the Tories are struggling to stay in third place – well behind Reform UK, still trailing Labour despite the Government’s well-documented struggles , and barely ahead of the Liberal Democrats.

Fewer than one in five Britons would vote for Badenoch’s party if a general election were held now.
