Near the end of regular meetings of the Chaves County Commissioners is the time for the county manager and each commissioner to make comments about matters with local relevance that aren’t on their agenda.
County Manager Bill Williams noted that Commissioners Michael Perry and Hub Corn made the trip. Perry was attending another event, this time in Texas. Corn returned home and was at the commission meeting.
Both of commissioners were visiting with federal officials to discuss the county’s need for funding through the Payments In Lieu of Taxes and Secure Rural Schools programs, known as PILT and SRS, respectively.
“I believe all of the meetings we went to, everybody was pretty much on board,” said Corn, a cattle and sheep rancher who visited Washington, D.C. for the first time.
