CHARLESTON — Most books flagged by National Park Service staff this summer as part of the Trump administration’s directive to identify content that puts the United States in a negative light are still on gift shop shelves of Fort Moultrie, Fort Sumter and the Charles Pinckney National Historic Site. The exhibits and signs remain unchanged even as the deadline to remove material has passed.

National Park staff were ordered to review and report by Aug. 18 any signs, monuments and other exhibits that could be deemed inappropriate or disparaging against any American, alive or dead, including those who lived in colonial times, according to an order from U.S. Department of Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.
