Tulsa County’s latest demands sinking a deal for the city of Tulsa to build a low-barrier shelter lines up with two other recent decisions painting a disturbing trend of commissioners being obstructionists and out-of-touch with constituents.

The commissioners are at a crossroads. They can be partners with cities to help solve problems. Or they can continue down this path and stunt progress.

The latest dust-up centers on the proposal to turn the vacant and deteriorating Tulsa County Juvenile Center, 315 S. Gilcrease Museum Road, into a low-barrier shelter. It makes sense. The property is located near other social services, including next door to the county’s 24-bed shelter. The county has no plans for it and declared it surplus.
