COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus police identified a 25-year-old man who was killed in a shooting in the early Sunday morning.

Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to the 1100 block of North High Street around 2:45 a.m. on a report of a fight. As officers arrived at the scene, they heard gunshots.

Officers found J'Vontia Cassell suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, police said. He was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead just after 5 a.m.

A second person was treated at the scene for an unrelated medical condition.

According to police, there was a large crowd of people at the scene when the shooting took place. They are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the incident contact investigators.
