The lights are on, but nobody’s been home for quite a while.

The currently vacant city Department of Health building at 55 Stuyvesant Pl. in St. George has been shrouded in scaffolding since 2007.

The front doors have been padlocked and covered with plywood to keep people out.

But while nobody is working in the building, lights eerily continue to shine in various offices throughout the building. You can easily see the fluorescent glow from the sidewalk below.

And if you go by at night, you may even see a raccoon, as I did during a recent visit.

Neighborhood residents have long complained that the property has become an eyesore and is destroying their quality of life.
