The Windsor Spitfires are living up to the hype.

Even with several players still away, the Spitfires, who are ranked No. 5 in the Canadian Hockey League, have burst out of the gate to start the OHL season.

A 4-1 win over the defending Memorial Cup champion London Knights on Saturday before a crowd of 6,432 at the WFCU Centre gave the Spitfires back-to-back wins to open the season for the first time since 2019.

“There were no expectations last year,” said Spitfires head coach Greg Walters, who guided the team to a franchise record 52-point turnaround. “Once the rankings came out (this year) and everyone knows how many guys we have back from last year, there is expectations.
