NEW YORK STATE (WSYR-TV) -- As summer dwindles, and the evenings get cooler, you may be trying to get the last bonfires of the year.
But the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is urging you to use extra caution before any outdoor burning by putting safety first, not leaving fires unattended and ensuring they are fully extinguished when you're done.
There's currently an increased fire risk across the state as a result of warm and dry conditions.
“Much of New York is abnormally dry and fire risk is either high or moderate for the entire state, so it's absolutely essential New Yorkers are mindful of the risk when doing any kind of residential outdoor burning,” said New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Amanda Lefton.
