Canada's prime minister Mark Carney has formally announced his country's recognition of a Palestinian state.

In a statement, Carney offered "to work in partnership to carry forward the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel. Canada sees this as part of a concerted international effort to preserve the possibility of a two-state solution."

The UK and Australia have also recognized a Palestinian state today , as part of a wider international push.
