Sonny Curtis, a vintage rock ‘n’ roller who wrote the theme song to “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” and “I Fought the Law, has died at the age of 88.

He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 as a member of The Crickets, alongside Buddy Holly.

Sarah Curtis, his wife of more than 50 years, confirmed to The Associated Press that the singer-songwriter died on Friday.

“I’m heartbroken to tell you that my dad Sonny passed away yesterday after a sudden illness,” his daughter, Sarah Curtis, wrote in a Facebook post . “I’m so grateful that I was with him at the end, along with my mom. It was peaceful and he didn’t suffer.
