Syracuse, N.Y. - An anonymous tip came in last weekend about a bag left on the Onondaga Creekwalk that had flies flying all around it.

Syracuse police responded to the creekwalk at about 3:55 p.m. Sept. 13, according to Sgt. Thomas Blake, a spokesperson for the Syracuse Police Department.

Officers found a double-bagged, black trash bag with flies surrounding it, Blake said. Inside the bag, police found a clear plastic bag holding a five-gallon bucket containing what looked like internal organs, he said.

The remains were brought to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office, Blake said. The ME’s examination determined the organs in the bag were not human but belonged to an unspecified animal, he said.

The investigation is now closed, Blake said.
